About Us
In 1987, Fil-Am Youth Basketball was established in the greater Los Angeles area to assist the Filipino community in providing young Filipino-American boys an opportunity to play basketball in an organized league. The mission of Fil-Am Youth Basketball was to deter the Filipino-American youth away from gangs and other high-risk activities within the inner city of Los Angeles.
In 1993, Hooptown International Youth Basketball was officially established to provide an additional opportunity to further develop the growing basketball talent within the FIl-Am Youth League. Hooptown's mission was to compete against the best players and competition throughout southern California as well as the United States. In addition, Hooptown aimed to prepare players for the high school level by focusing on academic achievement and teach proper basketball fundamentals.
Currently, Hooptown assists in the development and success of its student-athletes on and off the basketball court. Hooptown prides itself on teaching the proper basketball fundamentals of footwork, movement without the basketball, ball handling skills, defensive positioning and shooting mechanics.
Hooptown is fortunate to have developed student-athletes who have had the opportunity to play at the collegiate level. Hooptown student-athletes have played at the following Educational Institutions:
