Coach Jeff Berina - Director |
Coach Jeff Berina spent 8 seasons as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) that won 4 consecutive Western State Conference Championships. During his tenure at LAVC, Coach Jeff was responsible for developing perimeter players, structuring offensive sets, designing defensive strategies and contributing to game time adjustments. His belief of 5 players attacking the opposition as one unit has become a trademark in his coaching philosophy. Coach Jeff emphasizes the importance of discipline, hard work, integrity and loyalty as intangible assests for student-athletes on and off the basketball court. Coach Jeff has also coached at the NBA Summer Pro League at Cal State Long Beach.

Coach Johnny Garcia - Director |
Coach Johnny Garcia has had the opportunity to coach college basketball at Pasadena City College (PCC) and Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC). He served as an Assistant Coach for the Men's Team at PCC and Women's Team at LAVC. In both Assistant Coaching positions he was responsible for the development of guard/perimeter players, preparing scouting reports and diagraming offensive/defensive schemes. Coach Johnny possesses a tremendous ability training youth players in the areas of ball handling, shooting off the dribble, defensive mechanics and movement without the basketball. Coach Johnny has also coached at the NBA Summer Pro League at Cal State Long Beach. At Cal State Long Beach, Coach Johnny earned his Master of Arts degree in Kinesiology/Sport Management. Coach Johnny is also a proud graduate of the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business.

Coach Andrew Gupilan |
Coach Andrew Gupilan is a product of Hooptown who started with the program when he was 10 years old. Coach Andrew recently graduated with a Business degree and concentration in International Business from Whittier College, where he played as starting point guard. He currently serves as the Assistant Varsity Coach at John Muir HS of Pasadena, where he helped lead the Mustangs to the playoffs for the first time in 6 years. During the off-season, Coach Andrew coaches the 12 & Under and High School Hooptown Travel Teams reinforcing the importance of fundamental footwork, team communication, unselfishness and playing within the team structure. Coach Andrew is a great addition to the Coaching Staff where he brings a unique element of being a previous player within the Hooptown program. He has the aspirations of becoming a NCAA Division I College Basketball Head Coach. |
Coach Alan Cabagnot |
Coach Alan Cabagnot has been a parent and part of the Hooptown Coaching Staff since 1995. Coach Alan has experienced the process of developing youth basketball players into college level material. His son and alumnus, Alex Cabagnot, went through the Hooptown Program having the opportunity to play college basketball at Los Angeles Valley College and University of Hawaii, Hilo. More importantly, Coach Alan provides current Hooptown Parents the insight, patience, understanding and overall big picture to the development of Hooptown players. |
